I got many questions about the gear that I’m using and why I am using these brands. Here I will show all the gear and the brands that I’m using
As a landscape photographer, I am looking for best dynamic range, optimal image quality and a rugged body that can work under any weather conditions. The D850 which is the latest full frame DSLR from Nikon produces what I need from the camera.
On the other hand, I need a light weight camera for travelling or scotching and as a second body. Mirrorless camera offer these feature where they are small size, light weight and produces great image quality. according to my preferences I found that Fujifilm offer the most suitable solution for me.
The cameras that I am using are:
Usually, prefer the brand lenses over the third party lenses and because I am travelling a lot, the size and weight are very important factors for me. For that I only have three Nikkor lenses and two Fujifilm lenses where they are covering all my needs. These lenses are:
Nikkor 14-24mm F2.8
Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8
Fujinon 10-24mm F4
Fujinon 18-55mm F2.8-4
Tripods and supports
For landscape photography, tripod is the most have accessory. Good tripod will serve you for a longer time and ensure that you will get sharper images. I am not using very expensive brands such as Really Right Stuff or Gitzo where I believe that there are many Chinese brands that are giving a very respectful quality with cheaper price. The tripods and other supports accessories that I am using are:
Sirui N2204X Carbon Fiber Tripod
Sirui K30X Ball Head
Sirui 3T-35K Table Tripod
Benro TSL08CN00 Slim Carbon Fiber Tripod
Leofoto LPN-D850 L Bracket
Quick Release L bracket for Fujifilm X-T3
To achieve the artistic look especially in long exposure photography you need to use a special filters that are designed for this purpose. My advice is always use high quality filters because cheap filters will reduce the sharpness, Contrast and will cause color case in the image. The brand that I using is Athabasca filter where they are producing high end quality class with almost zero color cast and no effects on image quality.
I have two filter systems which are 150mm for my Nikkor 14-24mm and 100mm for my other lenses.
150mm System holder
150x150mm ARK II ND 1000
150x150mm ARK II ND 64
150x170mm ARK II GND 16
100mm System holder
100x100mm ARK II ND 1000
100x100mm ARK II ND 64
100x150mm ARK II GND 16
100x150mm ARK II Reverse GND 16
With the heavy weight of photography gear, a comfortable camera bag is required. usually I prefer backpack over the sling or shoulder bags because the weight distribution in the backpack is way better than sling bags. With photography there is no one bag that fits all your needs because sometimes I am carrying only one body and one lens and sometimes I am carrying all my gear. For that reason I own two camera bags. One of them is small sling bag and the other is a backpack. My favorite bag is the Benro Pro Ranger 400N because it is compact, light weight, well organized, good quality and small size which means I will not care about it at airports. The bags that I own are:
Benro Pro Ranger 400N
Vanguard Sedona 34
The idea of loosing the images is the most scaring thing for any photographer. For that reason every photographer trying to backup his work in two or three different places to make sure that they are safe. Even during the shooting sessions, I am making sure that the images are stored on both cards simultaneously and both of them in RAW format. Because of the huge size of Nikon’s D850 files I am carrying around 500GB of memory cards. and 2TB as a backup storage to make sure that every thing stored safely. For the memory cards I am trusting two brands which are Sony and SanDisk where for external HDD I am using WD.
Post processing is the art of highlighting the beauty of the take photograph. There is no complete image without post processing. to make sure that I am reaching the best results out of my RAW files, I am using the Dell XPS 5 2018 as my main editing tool. The reason of choosing the Laptop is because it has 4K screen with 400 nit of brightness and it covers 99% of AdobeRGB color. Good computer is not the only thing, to make the post processing more accurate and fun I am using Wacom tablet which is giving me more freedom in post processing.
Every screen by default is not calibrated and the presented colors are not 100% accurate even if it is a high end screen it will require a calibration to make sure that the colors are accurate and it will presented as seen on screen during print. For calibrating my screen I am using DataColor Spyder which is very useful tool where I am calibrating my monitor monthly.
Finally the Software that I am using for post processing are Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop and for star trails I am using StarStax which is a free tool for creating star trails.
